Do universities claim IP on startups built using free software licenses they provide? (i will not promote)
My university offers free access to tools like GitHub Copilot and Codex through their student program. I'm building a startup and want to know if using these tools could give the university any claim over my IP. Their IP policy says they only claim inventions made using "significant university resources" and explicitly states that "basic software does not constitute significant university resources." But a paid AI coding subscription feels different from Microsoft Office. Has anyone dealt with this? Do free
