Can iCloud remotely enable Protect Mail Activity on your Mac?

Interesting situation and my reason for the submission:

It’s difficult for me to test this issue further, because I use Mail app on only one device, my MacBook Pro. [...] I would appreciate additional testing or information from readers of this blog post, to help solve the mystery one way or the other.
